About Invoking the Compiler

The information in this topic is relevant for the Intel® compilers for both Linux* and Windows*, unless otherwise noted. However, the usage model for the Intel compilers for Linux differs slightly from the usage model for Windows. See the Intel Compiler User's Guide for detailed information on the specific Intel compiler you are using.

Here are some of the ways you can invoke the Intel® compiler:

  • directly from the command line
  • indirectly from the command line using a makefile
  • on Windows, from Microsoft* Visual Studio* .NET* (Applies to both C++ and Fortran compilers)

See the Intel Compiler User's Guide for detailed information on the different methods listed above.
